Kenda Mũiyũrũ: Rũgano rwa Gĩkũyũ na Mũmbi is the original Gĩkũyũ-language epic poem that serves as the basis for Ngũgĩ's later English work, The Perfect Nine. Written in rich, rhythmic verse, this foundational myth retells the creation story of the Gĩkũyũ people, focusing on the founders Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi and their ten brave daughters. Through a feminist lens, the story chronicles the sisters' adventures, unity, and resilience as they test ninety-nine suitors and embark on a perilous quest to find a cure for their youngest sibling.
