SHADOWS IN MY SUNSHINE

Shadows in My Sunshine follows the life of Wangeshi who was born with the HIV virus. It lists the stigma surrounding HIV and the achievements made by the availability of ARTs over forty years after HIV/AIDS was discovered and close to thirty years since it was declared a National Disaster in Kenya by the then president, Daniel Moi, in 1999. The book seeks to remind the society to not dampen the efforts made by medical researchers towards mitigating the effects of the virus. Recent statistics have shown the abandon recklessness with which sex is casually thrown around by the masses, especially the youth, who worry more of pregnancy than the transmission of STIs and STDs, some of which are life threatening. The data from pharmaceutical outlets, through the media, has reported that Emergency pills sell way higher than condoms. It, however, leans more on the hope of leading a normal life as a person living with the virus as depicted in the life of Wangeshi. The narration is not all gloom and doom but has been generously sprinkled with other exciting themes injecting bits of humour, culture and a dose of crime thrill.
