    Ben Carson

    Dr. Ben Carson (born 1951) is an American neurosurgeon, author, and public official. Raised by a single mother in inner-city Detroit, he overcame severe academic and financial hardships to graduate from Yale University and the University of Michigan Medical School. At age 33, he became the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, achieving global fame for performing the first successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head. He later served as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (2017–2021).
